Alabama Power’s Earth Cents Program

Alabama Power in cooperation with RESNET Raters statewide & Alabama Habitat for Humanity introduces Alabama Power’s new energy-efficiency new home program created to help our customers save money, use energy efficiently and improve the environment. EarthCents encourages customers to learn more about energy efficiency and what to look for when purchasing a new home.

With the EarthCents program, the home is tested and verified utilizing the national standard Home Energy Rating System (HERS) to validate the energy savings.

The home must meet the following qualifications for the EarthCents distinction:

  • Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index validating energy efficiency at least 15 percent greater than the 2009 Energy Code version adopted as the Alabama State Energy Code, as rated by RESNET-certified home energy rater
  • HERS Index target score of 78 (for 2012)
  • Home served by Alabama Power
  • Home’s dominant heating and water heating systems are electric
